OpenStreetMap: Quality assessment of Brazil's collaborative geographic data over ten years
نویسندگان
چکیده
OpenStreetMap is a collaborative mapping tool in which users actively include, transform and exclude geographic data. Consequently, the quality and consistency of the information made available in the tool is of constant concern. To address this issue, this work performs an analysis of some of the quality parameters within OpenStreetMap, with the data referring to the region corresponding to Brazil, over a ten year period, as a source. Analyzing the parameters of Completeness, Logical Consistency and Temporal Accuracy, some basic characteristics of this type of tool can be observed, such as heterogeneity, since mapping does not occur uniformly.

Quality Assessment of Remote Mapping in OpenStreetMap for Disaster Management Purposes
Over the last couple of years Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) and particularly OpenStreetMap (OSM) have emerged as an important additional source of information in disaster management. The so-called OSM Crisis Maps are primarily developed by OSM contributors who work remotely. While local OSM contributors know their area of interest and rely upon local knowledge, often the sole basis f...
متن کاملQuality Assessment of the Contributed Land Use Information from OpenStreetMap Versus Authoritative Datasets
Land use (LU) maps are an important source of information in academia and for policy-makers describing the usage of land parcels. A large amount of effort and monetary resources are spent on mapping LU features over time and at local, regional, and global scales. Remote sensing images and signal processing techniques, as well as land surveying are the prime sources to map LU features. However, ...
متن کاملTowards assessing the quality of volunteered geographic information from OpenStreetMap for identifying critical infrastructures
Identifying the assets of a community that are part of its Critical Infrastructure (CI) is a crucial task in emergency planning. However, this task can prove very challenging due to the costs involved in defining the methodology and gathering the necessary data. Volunteered Geographic Information from collaborative maps such as OpenStreetMap (OSM) may be able to make a contribution in this cont...
متن کاملAssessment of OpenStreetMap Data - A Review pdfkeywords=Openstreetmap, Crowdsourcing, Volutereed Geographic Information
The meaning and purposes of web has been changing and evolving day by day. Web 2.0 encouraged more contribution by the end users. This movement provided revolutionary methods of sharing and computing data by crowdsourcing such as OpenStreetmap, also called ”the wikification of maps” by some researchers. When crowdsourcing collects huge data with help of general public with varying level of mapp...
متن کاملTracking Editing Processes in Volunteered Geographic Information: The Case of OpenStreetMap
With an increasing number of applications building on OpenStreetMap, data quality is becoming a pressing issue. Data provenance gives useful hints that facilitate data quality assessments based on the features’ persistence. However, this requires a detailed analysis of the editing history and the corresponding contributors. In order to make this provenance information explicit, we introduce a p...
